Insley Smullen is a writer and photographer living in the Bay Area, California. They received their MFA in Poetry from Hollins University, where they were a Jackson Center Fellow. They are the author of the poetry book Dirt Gods.
They are currently interested in photographing families (all kinds, but especially adult children with their parents and/or grandparents), women over 60, people and their collections, people at work with land/animals/insects (farming, mining, ranching, hunting, taxidermy, skinning, butchering, beekeeping, falconry, etc. etc.), portraits inside a person’s home (emphasis on how a person makes a space reflect their interests), people engaged in making/crafting (cooking, canning, woodworking, metalsmithing, glasswork, basket-weaving, quilting, etc. etc.), and more.
